Who We Are

First Christian Church of Tyrone, Georgia exists as part of a movement of churches seeking Christian unity by means of New Testament truth, believing this to be God’s designated means to reaching the world for Christ. This movement of churches is referred to as the Restoration Movement, as we attempt to restore to the church unity in truth, thereby restoring to the church God’s purpose and plan for proclaiming Christ to the world.
We do not wish to form another denomination, division, or sect of the church; rather, we call for all believers to set aside denominational ties and seek devotion solely to Christ and His church as set forth in the New Testament.
We choose to wear only the name “Christian,” finding no authority in any man-made creed, document, or statement; rather we hold uncompromisingly to the truths of Scripture as our only authority for faith and practice; speaking boldly where Scriptures speak, and allowing liberty where Scriptures are silent.

John 17:23, “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

Our History

The church was first organized in August of 1900 under a makeshift brush arbor in College Park near the current MARTA transit station. In 1966, because of expansion of the airport, the congregation moved its facilities to Old National Highway in South Fulton County. In 1994, the congregation moved to its current location in Tyrone in order to be more accessible to its membership. In September, we will celebrate 111 years of serving the Lord.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
A distinctive part of our witness is that because the early church baptized by immersion, so do we.  We practice immersion not in any sense of superiority to others, but in a deep and abiding commitment to the witness of the apostles in the first century church.  We also practice weekly communion as was the practice of the early church.

A HEART FOR MINISTRY
First Christian Church is committed to the biblical idea that every believer is called by God to serve His Kingdom.  As Jesus said of Himself, we are called to serve, not to be served.  In that spirit, we believe that every member of our congregation should seek to:
  • Worship Regularly:  The early church met on the first day of the week and we are committed to that idea as  an essential part of our spiritual growth. Our service begins at 10:30 each Sunday morning.
  •  Serve Eagerly:  Christians are called to be servants of Christ as we minister to one another and to the world about us.  Each year FCC serves its community by inviting them to our Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, and Trunk or Treat. We also provide an “End of the Year Breakfast” for the faculty and staff of Tyrone    Elementary, Robert J. Burch Elementary, Flat Rock Middle School, and Sandy Creek High School.
  •  Give Generously: All that is in this world belongs to God and He has graciously allowed us to be good stewards. FCC allows schools, scouts, and other organizations to use our beautiful facilities. Beyond the city limits of Tyrone, FCC donates to many county, state, and world-wide ministries. A few are: Christian City,
Hope House, Fayette Samaritans, Baby Peaches, and CMF International.
  •  Live a worthy life:  It is an awesome thing to use the name of Christ to describe who we are.  While we recognize that we will never truly be worthy of that name, we are called to live in a way that is befitting the use of His name to describe us.
